As I mentioned sometime before, I'm going through a period of burnout recovery. In an effort to understand my burnout and go back to working in a way that I don't kill my creativity again, I decided to try and go back to my roots, study, and try out new things. One of these things was to take part in a redraw collab!
I drew what I wanted to draw: decrepit rocks as building blocks of variable sizes, with skulls hidden in between. I didn't plan at first for the twisted and broken bars, but as I tried to fill all the space with my pixels I felt the need for some more intense variation. What if there were unspeakable creatures in this dungeon that managed to break free? Did they spawn the fleamen there? Are the skeletons remains of the captured creatures or the remains of their prey? There is blood on the cage, did those creatures tore themselves apart to flee?
Something I tried to do so as to save some time and my wrists was to select parts that looked good, copy and paste, then flip or rotate them, maybe resize, and then draw the necessary adjustments such as fixing the shadows or the highlights, merging or separating rocks, adding more debris at their bases, things like that, so as to give the impression that everything is unique. Here are the some of parts that were reused:
How long did I take to finish this screen? Around 20-25 hours.
Let me know what you think of it! And thanks for sticking until the end of this post.
